Last War: How to Use Desert Protectors and Defeat Sandworms

In this guide, you will learn everything you need to know about the new Desert Protector units for the third season of Last War Survival, including how to upgrade and use them in combat. Plus, we’ll share the top strategies for taking down Sandworms this season and reveal the incredible rewards waiting for you.

Desert Protectors: Powerful Season 3 Units

Desert Protectors are special units available only in Season 3 of Last War Survival. To unlock them, you need to build the Protector’s Field.

Once built, this structure lets you convert some of your lost units from battles into Desert Protectors. Even though they keep the same level as your original troops, they are at least 10 times stronger than regular units in Season 3! How to Get Desert Protectors

There are three ways to obtain Desert Protectors in Last War Survival:

The first way is to ask for help from allies. Your alliance members can send their recon planes to speed up the conversion process. You can either wait for them to help or ask directly in the alliance chat to get it done faster.

The second way is to use Protector Horns, which can be purchased from the Desert Bazaar with Sandworm Scales. For 90 Sandworm Scales, you get 300 Protector Horns, which equals 300 Protector units. Keep in mind that these items have a weekly limit, so use them wisely, especially for rallies.

The third way is by upgrading the Protector’s Oath skill. Once you reach Profession level 50, this skill instantly grants you Desert Protectors, giving you a strong advantage in battles.

Protector Skills

Desert Protectors come with four powerful skills that unlock automatically as you gather more of these units. You can find them under the Protector tab.

The first skill boosts their attack by 25% and increases their Curse Resistance by 250. To unlock it, you need at least 500 Protectors.

The second skill grants a unique shockwave ability that activates when a Protector is lost in battle, taking down a small number of enemy units. You can unlock this skill if you have at least 750 Protectors.

For the third skill, you need 1,000 Protectors. If you win a battle while using Protectors in your squad, this skill applies a blue flame effect to the enemy’s base. However, it’s unclear whether this effect has an actual impact or if it’s just visual.

The fourth skill allows you to initiate rallies using Protectors, but only if you have at least 1,250 of them. If you have fewer than 1,250, you can still join rallies started by your allies and attack bases or monsters on the map, but you won’t be able to lead a rally with Protectors as your main unit.

Note: These units don’t return to your base after a rally or a regular attack. The only way to recover some of them is by unlocking the Indomitable Will skill at profession level 70, but even then, it only restores a small portion of your lost Protectors.

Sandworms: The Most Fascinating Monsters of Season 3

A giant sandworm and its rewards during Season 3 of Last War Survival

Now let’s talk about Sandworms. These might be the most exciting monsters you’ll face in Season 3. Unlike mummies and doom elites, Sandworms don’t require Curse Resistance, making them a bit easier to handle.

Sandworms come in three sizes: small, large, and giant. All of them drop great rewards, but the best prizes go to the player who first discovers them.

For example, a Giant Sandworm Finder’s Reward gives 500 Scales, compared to the 20 Scales you can get just for defeating it. On top of that, you also get 10 Hero’s Return Recruitment tickets, which offer a better chance of unlocking legendary heroes.

The Finder’s Reward and how to catch Sandworms

So how do you become the first one to discover a Sandworm and claim the Finder’s Reward? There are two possible methods, though I’m not 100% sure if the second one guarantees the reward, but in theory, it should.

Method 1

The first method is by tapping the question mark in the bottom left corner of your screen as soon as it’s fully charged. If you’re the last in your alliance to press it, you’ll receive a finder’s bonus reward. However, depending on the Sandworm’s size, your base will either be wrapped by the creature or randomly teleported somewhere on the map. If it wraps your base, meaning it’s a small Sandworm, you won’t be able to create rallies until your allies defeat it.

Method 2

The second method is by unlocking the Trap Landmine, a profession skill available at level 65. Once you have at least one, place it on a Sandworm’s path, which you can easily spot on the world map just outside your base.

But let’s find out more about each of the 3 types of Sandworms:

Small Sandworms

Small Sandworms can be defeated alone, but they can wrap around your base, preventing you from sending out troops. This happens if you’re the last among your alliance members to press the question mark when it’s fully charged.

Note: You can escape by teleporting your base, but I don’t recommend doing that. If you teleport, the Sandworm disappears, and you won’t get any rewards. Even worse, it will stop other alliance members who haven’t attacked yet from getting rewards too.

Large Sandworms

Large Sandworms are much tougher and require at least 35 million power per rally. That’s not a problem if you’re in a strong alliance, but they’re definitely harder than the small ones. They also give better rewards, though still 10 times less than Giant Sandworms.

Tip: Before tapping the question markmake sure your base is inside your Alliance Center area. Large Sandworms can randomly teleport bases outside the Alliance Center when they spawn, which can put you in a bad position.

Giant Sandworms

Giant Sandworms are the rarest and hardest to find. Unlike small and large Sandworms, they aren’t limited to specific alliances; any player on the entire server can discover and attack them.

These monsters require strong hero squads and about 48 million power per rally to bring down their HP efficiently. The rewards, however, are insane! You’ll get a huge amount of scales and resources, making them one of the best sources of rare loot.

For Giant Sandworms, I highly recommend using your Desert Protectors, as I explained earlier. These powerful units will give you the best chance of dealing maximum damage and earn top rewards.

And that wraps up our guide to Sandworms and Desert Protectors! Good luck out there, and don’t forget to share your own tips and experiences in the comments!
