Ever wondered which game modes in Last War Survival are the most exciting to play? Today, we’re ranking them all by difficulty and fun; from fast-paced zombie raids to massive alliance wars that test your strategy and teamwork. Here’s what each tier means:
- 🟧 S Tier – Amazing: Super fun, well-balanced, and rewarding.
- 🟨 A Tier – Great: No intense action but great rewards
- 🟦 B Tier – Average: Decent rewards but repetitive gameplay
- 🟩 C Tier – Frustrating: More grind than fun. Unclear mechanics or difficulty make it feel like a chore.
| Tier | Gameplay Mode |
|---|---|
| S | City building, Districts & Armed Truck Quests, World Map Battles, Opoly Special Events, Last War Seasons |
| A | Secret Mobile Squad & Hidden Treasures, War Center PvP Events, Special Ops, Trade Trucks, Radar Tasks |
| B | Ghost Ops, Restricted Area Training, |
| C | Frontline Breakthrough, Gorilla Overlord Quests |
Frontline Breakthrough (C Tier)
Let’s start with the elephant in the room, Frontline Breakthrough, which you can access by tapping the yellow helicopter inside your base. This game mode was added about a year after Last War Survival first launched and is probably the closest thing to what we all saw in the game’s ads. It was probably made to calm down players who complained that the actual gameplay looked nothing like the advertisements.
At first, it feels exciting and fresh. It’s also a great way to boost your army since any leftover units at the end of each stage are converted into your highest troop tier, up to 60 per stage. But that’s not easy to achieve unless you target the right obstacles and collect boosts in the proper order.
Unfortunately, what starts as fun, quickly turns into frustration. The later stages are insanely difficult; I spent hours trying to pass just a few levels. Yes, there’s a gameplay example video after you fail a stage, but those examples are kind of misleading. Just read the comments, and you’ll see what I mean. The enemies and barrels in the real game are much tougher, and there are no real instructions to guide you.
We’ve actually made a full Frontline Breakthrough guide series with clear steps and examples, so feel free to check them out.
City building (S Tier)
I’ve always loved the base-building side of Last War Survival, mostly because I’m a big fan of strategy games. It’s the core of the game and what truly defines it. While it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, most players enjoy this part the most.Sure, upgrading higher-level buildings or finishing tech research takes a lot of time, but the feeling of finally reaching a new headquarters level is incredibly rewarding.
Plus, if you have a good strategy you can manage to gather enough speedups, resources or even gems to decrease all your upgrade durations and you can find plenty of guides on this channel for that. Last War Survival gives you that same satisfaction you get from other top strategy mobile games like Rise of Kingdoms, Whiteout Survival, or Rise of Castles.
Gorilla Overlord Exploration Quest (C Tier)

Gorilla Overlord is basically a superhero for your squads — kind of like having a second Tactical Drone. What makes it special is that it boosts your overall power as you upgrade it, use it in battles, and even control it directly in this special Armed Truck–style mode once it’s unlocked.
You can access Gorilla Overlord around day 89 of Season 2, which is roughly nine months after your server starts. To unlock it, you’ll need a Headquarters level 27 or higher, complete a special radar task, build the Overlord’s base, and heal it using three new item types until it regains its full strength.
Once it’s healed, you can use it in Exploration Quests, even before reaching the Rookie Partner rank required for PvP and world map battles. You can also level it up to 60 to gain more power, unlock new skills, and improve its stats.
However, the Overlord Exploration Quest is not for beginners. Even at level one, your opponent starts at level 217, making it nearly impossible to win with a basic squad or a newly unlocked Overlord.
Last War Survival Seasons (S Tier)
The Seasons are the biggest and most important events in Last War Survival. Each season comes with its own theme, but the main mechanics stay the same. You and your alliance compete against other alliances from different servers in large-scale world map battles, capturing cities, strongholds, and even alliance centers to earn points and climb the rankings.
The rewards from Seasons are easily the best in the entire game. There’s also an individual ranking inside your alliance, where players with the highest contribution scores across several activities earn extra rewards in addition to the usual medals at the end of the season. These medals can be exchanged for rare items in the Season Store, including exclusive base skins, decorations, and other high-value materials.
If you’re part of a strong alliance, you can usually earn enough medals after just one season to grab a base skin. Otherwise, after two seasons, you’ll likely have enough to get one or choose something else from the store. The only downside is that Seasons last about a month, which can feel long for some players.
Districts and Armed Truck Quests (S Tier)
Clearing districts is easily the most fun part of Last War Survival — at least for me. It’s also where your journey begins: reclaiming your zombie-occupied base, clearing block after block, and rescuing Monica.

Compared to how this mode was a year ago, it’s much better now. Clearing blocks and defeating bosses feels smoother, with better graphics, and the new bonus rewards after every few stages make it even more satisfying. Once you reach around district stage 125, which is basically after clearing your base area twice, the mode continues as Armed Truck Exploration Quests.
The rewards are solid — speedups, gems, and Hero Recruitment Tickets every five levels — and the gameplay stays engaging. What I really like about the Armed Truck missions is that they don’t feel repetitive. Sure, there are about five or six battle types, from shooting monsters with one hero to using your full squad, but the bosses, obstacles, and stage layouts change enough to keep things interesting.
And the fun doesn’t stop there; you can even control the Armed Truck yourself. On mobile, tap and hold the screen to accelerate; on PC, hold the left mouse button and steer left or right to crush zombie hordes.
Secret Mobile Squad and Hidden Treasures (A Tier)
Secret Mobile Squad and Hidden Treasures can both be accessed from the Secret Command Post. These modes don’t involve real-time battles, but they still play an important role in your daily progress. You can also interact with your alliance members here, which is another reason why being part of an alliance really helps in Last War Survival.
In the Secret Mobile Squad, you’ll find a list of daily Secret Missions with different difficulty levels. You simply send your squads to complete these missions automatically. You can also help up to 5 allies each day, instantly earning the listed rewards. The higher the difficulty, the better the prizes, which include resources, chests, and other useful materials.
Most SSR and UR missions reward random map fragments, which can be combined in the Hidden Treasures section or trade with your allies to unlock more rewards. These missions can also drop Adventurer’s Key Chests, and you’ll need to collect five of them to open an Adventurer’s Chest of random rarity, with MR and UR chests offering the best items.
Both modes are simple and don’t require much time, but completing your daily missions and helping your alliance consistently can give you a steady flow of rewards and rare items.
World Map Battles – PvP & Zombies (S Tier)

World Map battles are the heart of Last War Survival. This is where most of the action happens — attacking zombies, fighting other players’ bases, and competing for resources. Many players see this as the most exciting part of the game since it combines strategy and teamwork.
It can indeed be tough to compete with top spenders who invest heavily in the game, but staying active and consistent makes a big difference. By doing your daily tasks, upgrading your base, and leveling up your heroes, you can still rank high on the leaderboards without spending.
And not everyone enjoys the PvP side of the game, and that’s completely fine. Last War Survival gives you two professions to choose from: Engineer and War Leader.
Engineers focus more on building, resource production, and long-term growth, while War Leaders specialize in combat and battles on the world map. This gives every player the freedom to play in their own style and still be part of the action.
War Center PvP Events (A Tier)
The PvP events in the War Center are some of the most exciting parts of Last War Survival. They bring fast action and strategy to the game, letting players compete in modes like Desert Brawl, Winter Storm Battlefield, Meteorite Iron War, and Desert Storm Battlefield. Each mode has its own style, but all of them focus on capturing buildings, earning points, and working as a team.
These events are a nice change from the usual base-building. They focus on teamwork and quick decisions during battles. Having strong heroes, good upgrades, and an active alliance really helps. It can be hard to win against veteran players, but staying active and working with your team makes a big difference.
The most popular and casual mode is Winter Storm Battlefield. You don’t need to register, and your teammates and opponents are chosen randomly. Each match lasts about five minutes or less, making it perfect for quick, intense battles.
All War Center events offer great rewards like Gems, Speedups, and Honor Points. You can use Honor Points in the Honor Shop to buy Overlord Bond Badges, Decoration Chests, Gear Blueprints, and other useful items. Even if you don’t win every match, playing often will still earn you valuable rewards over time.
Special Ops (A Tier)
Special Ops is the second tab of Operation Falcon (the yellow chopper) and is somewhat similar to Frontline Breakthrough, but much easier and more enjoyable. The rewards are nearly the same — all your remaining units at the end of a stage are converted into your highest unlocked unit tier.
What makes Special Ops even better is that it also gives Hero EXP, and there’s no 60-unit limit per stage. This means the more units you manage to keep alive, the bigger your rewards.
The gameplay is fast-paced and fun, focused on quick thinking, avoiding traps, and choosing the best multipliers or dividers to outnumber the zombie waves. It’s a great mix of action and simple strategy, offering consistent rewards and a satisfying sense of progress.
Ghost Ops (B Tier)
Ghost Ops is the third section of the Secret Command Post and becomes available once your Headquarters reaches level 18. Every Thursday, three special missions appear where you can send your squad to other warzones. These missions can be done solo, but it’s better to invitte your alliance members by sharing the mission link in the alliance chat. Working together increases your chances of completing tougher missions and earning better rewards.
After your squads return, you’ll need to revisit the event page to claim your prizes. Ghost Ops is a fun and simple way to get extra rewards, though it doesn’t include any real battles. To get the top-tier rewards, you’ll need a diverse team with high-star heroes, which makes it harder for newer players. Because of that, I’ll rank Ghost Ops in the B tier.
Restricted Area Training (B Tier)
Restricted Area Training is one of the newer gameplay modes in Last War Survival, found in the Alert Tower inside your base. Here, you send your units on special training missions with different daily goals. The farther you progress through the Restricted Areas, the better the rewards you’ll earn.

Each training session takes at least four hours, and you can also challenge a boss for extra rewards. However, there’s no visual battle, and the boss fights can be quite difficult for beginners. Even so, this mode offers steady daily rewards and is worth doing regularly for extra resources and items.
Trade Truck Missions (A Tier)
What I love about Trade Truck Missions is the mix of resource management and PvP action. You can send trucks on missions of different rarities for a chance to earn valuable resources and even Alliance Duel points during the weekly event. On top of that, you can plunder other players’ trucks, whether they’re from your own server or another one, adding a fun competitive element to the mode.
The only downside is that UR missions don’t appear as often as they used to in the early days of Last War Survival. I usually need to use at least 4 or 5 Trade Contracts per mission before I finally get UR, since most missions tend to be N or R quality, which offer the smallest rewards.
Opoly Special Events (S Tier)
Opoly events, like Halloweenopoly or Sportsopoly, are some of the most enjoyable and creative events in Last War Survival. They should definitely be on your list if you want to earn unique rewards such as permanent base skins, nameplates, decorations, and many other limited-time items.
Each Opoly event follows the same basic mechanics but with a different theme to match the occasion. For example, during the Halloween event, you can collect candies and use them to fight a boss for a chance to get a Hallowagon. Once you have it, you can start a parade and earn extra rewards.
These events often include several smaller activities, such as a dice roll game and a run competition, where you can train your character to run faster and climb the leaderboard for exclusive prizes.
Radar Tasks (A Tier)
Radar Tasks are one of the most rewarding and important daily activities in Last War Survival. If you skip them, you’ll miss out on a lot of valuable resources. The tasks you receive depend on your current radar level, which increases as you complete a set number of missions.
By doing these tasks, you can earn battle data for your drone, Hero EXP, hero shards to upgrade hero tiers, Training Guidebooks for the Gorilla Overlord, Recruitment Tickets, Survivors, and much more. They’re also a great source of points during the Alliance Duel every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, making them even more useful.
With such a wide range of rewards and steady progression benefits, Radar Tasks are easily one of the best daily activities in the game.
Thanks for reading and let me know in the comments which gameplay mode is your favorite or which one you’d rank differently!
