Games Like Rise of Kingdoms

Rise of Kingdoms is one of the most popular and successful strategy mobile games of the last decade. It combines traditional real-time strategy gameplay with great visuals, powerful commanders, a variety of units, and an engaging story. You can also pick one of the best civilizations, which will affect your overall progression in the game. But in the last few years, quite a few other games have been released that offer a similar experience.

That’s why we’ve compiled this list of the best games like Rise of Kingdoms to try out. The majority of these games are quite new, with amazing graphics. There are also a few released this year, so you can be sure of finding something fresh to play!

1. Call of Dragons

  • Developer: Fairlight
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android
  • Released on: Mar 25, 2023

Call of Dragons is our number one recommended game for those who are looking for something similar to Rise of Kingdoms and for a good reason. This game is created by the same company as Rise of Kingdoms, and it offers the same great gameplay experience, with even more exciting visuals, and great content to keep you engaged.

In this game, you’ll have to choose one of the 3 factions: Springwardens (Elves), League of Orders (Humans), and Wilderburg (Orcs). Factions are a feature similar to Rise of Kingdoms civilizations, and picking the best Call of Dragons faction plays a crucial part in your game progression.

Each faction comes with its unique design, structures, heroes, and units, and they will offer you a different gaming experience.

Once you pick your favorite, you can start building your kingdom, create legions of units and strong heroes, and battle against other players.

Another interesting feature of Call of Dragons is the possibility to join or create raid groups with other players and alliances and fight ferocious beasts called Behemoths. The fights are not easy to win, but the rewards are amazing.

Overall, Call of Dragons is an amazing similar strategy game to Rise of Kingdoms that you will certainly enjoy. And the great news is that you can play Call of Dragons on PC as well, and have the progress automatically sync across your devices.

2. Infinity Kingdom

  • Developer: Yoozoo (Singapore) Pte. Ltd
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android, iOS, PC, macOS,
  • Released on: Jan 27, 2021

Infinity Kingdom is also a game quite similar to Rise of Kingdoms, but besides the strategy and resource management elements, it has a unique MMO fantasy twist. What I like a lot about this game, is the 3D cartoon-style world and combat view, which makes the game incredibly immersive.

The inclusion of some of the most iconic historical figures as Immortals, such as Hannibal Barca, Helen of Troy, and Julius Caesar, adds another interesting layer to the strategy gameplay.

You must defend the Norheim land, pick between 3 Kingdoms (Ruslan, Ydvia, and Vitas), and fight against evil gnomes who have conquered the land, including your town.

As in most strategy mobile games, you can form alliances with other players, recruit powerful Immortals, and rebuild your city with plenty of buildings and research options.

3. Rise of Castles: Ice and Fire

  • Developer: Long Tech Network
  • Genre: Strategy, PvP
  • Platforms: Android, iOS
  • Released on: 1 Aug 2018

Rise of Castles is yet another great alternative to Rise of Kingdoms and one of my all-time favorite medieval MMO strategy games for mobile devices. I’ve been playing it since early 2020, and I am continuously impressed by its captivating strategic gameplay and the large community of players who are constantly competing with each other.

The game features different classes, units, and a huge collection of heroes, each with its own unique abilities. The game is super fun to play and there are plenty of events to keep you busy.

You can fight Giants and different types of bandits on the map, which will help you develop your heroes and gain nice rewards, send your troop to gather resources, or complete Province Quests and gain experience to further upgrade your chosen class.

Plus, you can even raise a Red dragon to help strengthen your army and city, as it can help you battle and provide you with amazing bonuses for your city growth in general. It has plenty of daily and weekly events and challenges that will keep you coming back for more.

4. Viking Rise

  • Developer: IGG
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android
  • Released on: Dec 22, 2022

Viking Rise is by far the best Viking mobile game I tried so far. The game is developed by IGG, the same team behind the popular strategy game Lords Mobile: Kingdom Wars.

It features incredibly realistic visuals, and a great campaign with plenty of missions and chapters to keep you busy.

Same as in Rise of Kingdoms, you’ll need to build your own city, assemble teams of powerful Viking heroes, and conquer lands. And speaking of heroes, the game has many of the iconic characters from the Norse sagas, including Valkyrie, and a few ones clearly inspired by the TV series Vikings, like Ragnar, Lagertha, and Bjorn.

But there’s more! You’ll also have the chance to hunt beasts, explore mysterious caves, discover hidden treasures, and conquer villages to which you can assign skilled workers and heroes to get buffs and rewards.

5. Game of Empires: Warring Realms

  • Genre: Strategy, City-building, PvP
  • Platforms: Android
  • Released on: Jan 17, 2023

Game of Empires not only includes elements that you might be familiar with if you are an experienced Rise of Kingdoms player, but also graphics that will definitely remind you of the classic Age of Empires. This strategy game allows you to explore 8 ancient civilizations, each with its own unique set of heroes and units.

As the ruler of your chosen civilization, you will have to recruit villagers to build farms, research new technologies, train powerful troops, attack barbarians or other players, and participate in events with your alliance. You also have the opportunity to recruit legendary figures like Pompey, Mulan, and Vlad Dracula as your heroes.

6. Age of Frostfall

  • Developer: Warmest Good Limited
  • Genre: Strategy, City-building, PvP
  • Platforms: Android
  • Released on: Jul 6, 2022

Age of Frostfall is a strategy mobile game that combines PvP battles with the excitement of fighting off hordes of Undead monsters, all in an immersive city-building fantasy world.

The storyline of the game is set in a world that has been conquered by Undead forces and the only hope of survival is to build a powerful kingdom and train an army to fight off the invading monsters.

The mechanics of the game involves a mix of strategic combat, city-building, and diplomacy. Just like in Rise of Kingdoms, you must build a powerful army by recruiting heroes from different rarities and with a variety of specializations, and skills.

A unique feature that I like in Age of Frostfall is the ability to raise and customize your Dragon by increasing its level and a series of powerful skills that will benefit both, your city economy and your military capabilities.

7. Nations of Darkness

  • Platforms: Android, iOS
  • Released on: Jan 9, 2023

Nations of Darkness is one of the newest and most compelling kingdom-building strategy mobile games on the market, featuring four captivating factions – Vampire, Werewolf, Hunter, and Mage. Set in a colorful fantasy world, each faction has its unique advantages and over 60 heroes to choose from.

The game offers a blend of modern and medieval elements with gothic structure designs and a dark fantasy atmosphere. Similarly to Rise of Kingdoms, you must reconquer your land and build your kingdom from scratch using different resources and buildings, and recruit powerful troops and heroes.

You can take part in various activities, either PvP or PvE, and form alliances with other players. You can even hire your steward, which will help you organize various tasks and offer you great buffs and bonuses as you increase your loyalty level.

8. Merger Legion

  • Developer: Karma Game
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android, iOS
  • Release on: Jan 29, 2023

Merger Legion is quite a fun and unique strategy game that utilizes the concept of merging units or buildings instead of long wait times. As long as you have two units or buildings of the same level, you can instantly merge them to upgrade them to the next level.

You’ll need to take on the challenge of recruiting strong heroes such as Cleopatra, Spartacus, Leonidas, and Caesar to lead your troops in battle.

You can progress through different ages from the Stone Age to the Imperial Age, with plenty of unique resources to acquire and battles to fight against fierce enemies.

9. Kingdom Maker

Kingdom Maker – gameplay, hero, and town view
  • Developer: Scopely
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android, iOS
  • Released on: 13 Jun 2022

Kingdom Maker offers an entire 3D fantasy world for you to explore and build up as you wish. You begin the adventure with a small village, but gradually develop it into an expansive kingdom through upgrades, research, and the creation of powerful teams of champions, similar to what you would in Rise of Kingdoms.

Its unique twist and kind of a funny feature among all the games similar to Rise of Kingdoms that I tried so far, is that allows you to customize and breed your own family of nobles. Each noble member has unique traits and capabilities that you can unlock by leveling them up.

In addition to the main campaign that offers plenty of missions, you can also test your power in PvP battles against other players.

The graphics are very impressive, although they may run a bit slow on older phones when your city starts to grow. To make the most out of this unique gaming experience, be sure to read our guide for Kingdom Maker.

10. Forge of Empires

Forge of Empires - Bronze Age gameplay
Forge of Empires – Bronze Age gameplay
  • Developer: InnoGames
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android, iOS, PC
  • Release on: Mar 24, 2015

Forge of Empires is one of the first and most known city-building mobile games like Rise of Kingdoms ever created. Although the graphics might not look as stunning as Rise of Kingdom’s and other modern games included in this list, Forge of Empires has one of the richest contents and a large community of players from all over the world.

As you’ll be starting the game, you will be guided by Ragu Silvertongue, your loyal assistant, who will help you build up your kingdom from scratch, and teach you the basics. As you progress, you will be able to explore over 20+ ages, from Bronze Age, up to Late Middle Ages and various futuristic eras.

You can as well take part in PvP battles, join alliances with other players to grow your empire faster, and complete special tasks during different events.

11. Epic Age

Epic Age – gameplay, attacking territory guards
  • Developer: IGG
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP
  • Platforms: Android, iOS
  • Released on: Sep 21, 2022

Epic Age is one of the latest released strategy games of IGG, the same company that created Viking Rise. The story begins with an epic battle that gets interrupted by a catastrophic volcano eruption.

Your legion manages to escape with the ships and finds a land filled with resources, plenty of opportunity, and hostile rivals. You must now build your kingdom and strategically use the terrain, technology, and alliances to become the strongest power.

The game features a realistic simulation of the real world, including famous geographical wonders like the Great Rift Valley, and the Alps.

You will have to traverse the map and take control of cities and buildings to use for your strategies. The graphics are amazing for a mobile game, and what I particularly like about it, is that the “annoying little hand” tutorial does not last as long as in other mobile games.

12. Clash of Empire: Strategy War

  • Developer: LEME GAMES
  • Genre: Strategy, Build & Battle, PvP

Clash of Empire: Strategy War is our last pick for this list of Rise of Kingdoms alternatives, and one that promises a thrilling adventure! The graphics might not look as impressive as the other contenders in this list, but the storyline and the mechanics will keep you captivated.

You can recruit iconic historical heroes such as Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Caesar, and Joan of Arc to help you conquer lands and build your empire.
