What Makes a Good Hero in Age of Frostfall?

Many things make a hero great in Age of Frostfall. These include the hero’s ability to deal damage, their utility skills, and their overall performance in battle. Here are the main things that make a hero powerful in Age of Frostfall:

Hero Rarity

Obviously, the better a hero’s Rarity is, the better their stats will be. You can identify a hero’s Rarity by looking at their colors. As in most mobile strategy games, heroes in Age of Frostfall exist in 3 different colors. The first color is blue (Rare), which includes the weakest heroes in the game. The second color is purple (Epic), followed by orange (Legendary) which are the strongest and most useful heroes in the game, and the best choice to increase your progress in the game.

There is also a big difference in hero levels, star levels, and the number of skills between these 3 types of heroes.

A Rare (blue) hero can be leveled up to level 40, can have a maximum of 4 stars, and has only 4 Appointed skills. An Epic (purple) hero can be upgraded to level 50, has 5 stars, and has 5 Appointed Skills. A Legendary (orange) hero can reach up to level 60, has 6 star levels, and has 6 Appointed Skills.

Hero Level

It is no secret that the higher your heroes’ level, the more powerful they become. Every hero can reach up to level 60 in Age of Frostfall, and with each level up, a hero’s stats increase. The hero level also affects the maximum number of Appointed Skills that you can unlock.

The Unique Skill and Star Level

Each hero in Age of Frostfall has a unique skill that plays a crucial role in the hero’s overall performance in battle, and it becomes available after summoning the hero. This skill is directly affected by the Star Level as well as the Hero level. The higher these two levels are, the more powerful the Unique Skill’s stats will be.

Star Level is directly affecting the stats of both skills of a hero, the Unique Skill and the Appointed Skill. Therefore is imperative to upgrade your hero’s Star Level as often as possible, in order to increase the overall power of your heroes and make them more effective in battle. Heroes can be upgraded up to a 5-star level, by using Hero Fragments.

Unique Skill’s Base Effect

The Unique Skill’s Base Effect becomes available after recruiting the hero and applies only while your troops are marching (Barbarian Camps attacks, rallies, PvP attacks, gathering resources, etc.). To increase your damage as much as possible, you should pick heroes that have the best damage boost as the Base Effect.

The Unique Skill’s Resonance Effect (Resonance type)

The Resonance bonus effect becomes active only when you have two heroes with the same Resonance type in your squad. It applies to heroes garrisoned to the Wall Defense, attacking Barbarians, and doing Path of Legend Chapters.

The Resonance Types

There are 4 types of Resonance: Gallantry, Freedom, Glory, and Prosperity. The Resonance bonus effect can increase the overall damage of a hero considerably. However, these bonuses vary from one hero to another. That’s why is essential to pick the right heroes of the same Resonance type when forming your troop, and it also depends on the type of game mode you are playing.

Appointed Skills (Hero Council)

Appointed Skills are crucial when it comes to increasing your hero’s performance. While some heroes have fewer essential skills for a specific game mode, other heroes include amazing skills that can help boost the damage of your troops significantly. Such skills include Cavalry Attack, Archer Attack, Infantry, or Troop Attack.

The Appointed Skills become available only when the hero is appointed to the Hero Council. Depending on the hero’s Rarity, there are between 4 and 6 Appointed Skills, and they can be upgraded by using Hero Fragments. Each Appointed Skill also required a certain hero level to be reached in order for that skill to be unlocked. The first skill requires hero level 5, followed by levels 10, 15, 25, 35, and hero level 40 for the 6th skill.

These skills can be upgraded individually using EXP items, and by doing so, the stats provided by each Appointed Skill will be increased, so make sure to upgrade them as often as possible, to increase your hero’s overall damage output or their defense.
